Swim Instructor & Lifeguard

WEST Coast Aquatics is a 501c3 non-profit, coach run organization committed to promoting swimming for life. We own and operate our facility and pride ourselves on fostering excellence both in and out of the pool while instilling life lessons such as dedication, sportsmanship and a strong work ethic. JOB DESCRIPTION
WEST Swim Lessons Instructors are critical to our organization and play a major role in the development of our swimmers. These instructors are responsible for instilling the basics of competitive swimming at an early age, while ensuring that proper technique and feedback remains paramount throughout their time in our curriculum. Teaching children to swim is a rewarding experience and instructors need to be enthusiastic and passionate about the water and instill a love for swimming in their students.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
-Minimum age 15
-Must have experience with children ages 3 to 12 years old, or willing to learn to work with children.
-Preference for candidates with competitive swimming experience and a basic knowledge of proper stroke technique.
-Maintain positive and polite attitude towards all swimmers and parents.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Responsible for assuring a safe and fun environment for all students.
-Build confidence in and around water and promote lifelong enjoyment of swimming.
-Follow program curriculum and teach proper skill progressions for competitive swimming.
-Give each individual adequate attention, feedback corrections, or coaching during the class session.
-Be punctual, with enough time to change and set up work station prior to the start of class as well as take down after their shift.
-Attend regular staff in-service training.
-Maintain professional appearance and attitude.
LIFEGUARDING
Lifeguards are critical to the operation of all WEST programs. Lifeguards are responsible for maintaining the safety of all customers, athletes and lesson children. In the mornings, lifeguards open the pool, during the daytime they clean and help maintain our facility and during the evenings they monitor lessons.
Lifeguard starting pay ranges based on experience and performance. Schedule is flexible with preference for afternoon, evening and weekend hours.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
-MUST BE American Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard and CPR certified.
-Minimum age 16.
-Knowledge of pool equipment and basic cleaning
-Work effectively with others
-Customer service skills
-Attention to detail
-Arrive to scheduled shifts punctually.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Must be competent with water safety and lifeguarding skills.
-Attend regular staff in-service training.
-Monitor all facility activities.
-Administer first aid.
-Perform water rescues as necessary.
-Enforce all pool rules.
-Take regular pool chemical readings.
-Maintain a clean and safe environment.
-Maintain professional appearance.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
-walk and stand for long periods.
-lift up to 50 lbs.
-swim 600 yards and tread water.
COMPENSATION:
$15 - $25 / an hour based on performance and experience
