The Buerk Center for Entrepreneurship (in the UW Foster School of Business) focuses on the student entrepreneurial experience. The center, currently ranked #8 in the 2020 US News and World Report’s ranking of entrepreneurship and #12 in Entrepreneur Magazine's ranking, offers programs, curricula, and real-world activities that give entrepreneurial students the knowledge and the hands-on experience they need. And entrepreneurship is on the rise. Many students (both business and nonbusiness undergraduates and graduate students) now see entrepreneurship as their career path. Those who participate in Buerk Center's programs--like the Alaska Airlines Environmental Innovation Challenge, the Dempsey Startup Competition, the Jones + Foster Accelerator, or the Health Innovation Challenge--go on to start successful ventures.
The Buerk Center for Entrepreneurship has an outstanding opportunity for an Operations Manager (Administrative Specialist).
This Administrative Specialist manages all administrative functions in support of the center and the director. This includes budget preparation, allocation and management, strategic planning, data collection and reporting, the center's advisory board, and all major and community events to enhance the efficient functioning of the center's curriculum, programs, activities, and outreach. This position will work independently, initiating and performing complex and confidential projects, and have decision-making authority to ensure that the administrative function conforms to Foster School of Business best practices, as well as UW policies.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Finance Management, Budget Development And Creation, Resource Allocation, And Monthly Reporting
- Provide administrative support for UW CoMotion/Buerk Center to launch annual NSF I-Corps program funding; review applications and final reports; manage the disbursement of funds, and audit the I-Corps grant spending.
- Manage and disburse student payments for 100+ fellowships and internships, prototype funding, accelerator awards, competition prizes, and expense funds.
- Develop and enforce budget procedures to ensure compliance with University regulations that govern financial activities of the program.
- Produce sponsor invoices for corporations that fund the center's various compeititions, and follow up with late payments.
Project Management & Strategic Planning
- Choose locations, venues, catering; coordinate equipment/supplies.
- Negotiate and process contracts and manage vendors.
- Select and train student volunteers.
- Steward sponsors and granting organizations.
Entre Survey Management, Database Creation And Maintenance
- Develop and enforce data procedures and best practices.
- Gather yearly information in a continuous and timely fashion to update the center's dashboard for the advisory board and the Foster School dean.
- Supervise the work of a student assistant tasked with ongoing data collection.
REQUIREMENTS
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.
