Facilities Management at the University of Maryland College Park seeks an expert technical professional to serve as operation and maintenance Superintendent for Satellite Central Utility Buildings (SCUBs) and standalone chiller plants campus wide. The incumbent will be responsible for technical support and oversight of maintenance, service and repairs, upgrades and new installations for chiller plants throughout the University campus; and, will manage all outsourced maintenance and preventive maintenance, service and repairs. The incumbent must also be capable of operating SCUBs via the campus Building Automation System (BAS) or in Local (Manual) Mode. Incumbent will be required to understand the design and operation of the chiller plant up to and including the devices (chiller technology, pumps, cooling tower, ventilation systems, and refrigerant management systems). Incumbent will provide leadership and management oversight in areas to include scheduling maintenance, coordinating repairs, quality assurance, ensuring proper plant rounds and equipment operations; and shall regularly evaluate chiller plants for optimum efficiency and reliability. The incumbent will be required to utilize various computer-based systems such as control automation, work management, payroll, and performance review systems and develop training to improve staff proficiencies.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or High School/GED with an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. A Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field required; and eight (8) years progressively responsible field experience in the trade for the operation, repair and maintenance of commercial HVAC equipment including large chiller plants, up to and in excess of 2,000 Tons both electric and steam turbine driven and control systems; without Bachelor’s degree twelve (12) years’ experience, eight (8) of those in demonstrated field application. Must have a valid Maryland Class “C” driver’s license or equivalent with fewer than 6 points if driving a state vehicle in the performance of job duties. Preferences include a minimum of a First Class Operating Engineers License issued by any jurisdiction or national organization, such as NIULPE ASME, NAPE, or Federal Government Agency; Universal CFC certification; and, a minimum of five (5) years in a supervisory or professional field capacity related to chillers and plants, ancillary systems related to chiller plants including not limited to chillers, pumps (CHW, HHW, CW), cooling towers, VFD’s, system appurtenances and control systems.
Salary/Benefits:
Salary based on qualifications and experience. Position is Essential and subject to 24-hour/day, 7-day/week span of operation. Benefits include health, dental, vision and prescription insurance plans, tuition remission for employees and dependents, and participation in the State pension system.
