Chemical Pilot Plant Technician
Status: Full-time, Regular, Non-Exempt.
Reports To: Reports to the Engineering Manager, Research & Development Department, Chemithon Corporation, Seattle
General Summary:
The Chemical Pilot Plant Operator/Technician is responsible for the set-up, operation, and maintenance of the pilot plant. This position also receives, ships and tracks the Pilot Plant’s chemical inventory as well as other duties as assigned by the Engineering Manager. Acquisition of a Boiler Operator’s license is a requirement as part of the candidate’s qualifications or training.
Essential Job Functions:
- Responsible for the set-up, preparation, and clean up of the pilot plant for experimental test runs.
- Responsible for the assembly and fabrication of equipment.
- Responsible for the maintenance of pilot plant equipment and spare parts inventory. This includes but is not limited to mechanical maintenance and repair.
- Responsible for researching and ordering repair parts for equipment including procuring the most cost effective means of repair and closely interacting with various vendors.
- Responsible for trouble shooting and repairing pilot plant equipment.
- Responsible for operation of boiler and pilot plant utility systems.
- Responsible for the operation of pilot plant process systems.
- Responsible for the operation of a forklift.
- Responsible for handling of dangerous and hazardous chemicals.
- Responsible for monitoring and assisting management of the inventory of chemicals entering and exiting Chemithon.
- Responsible for preparing shipments of chemicals to customers.
- Responsible for maintaining and supporting a safe work environment including reporting unsafe conditions or workplace hazards, keeping work area clean, preventing injuries and illnesses, and adhering to Company Safety Manual.
- All other duties as assigned by the Manager of Engineering.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficiency in all mechanical maintenance and repair operations as outlined above.
- Must have high level of mechanical aptitude.
- Proficiency in reading, understanding and interpretation of complex blueprints, specifications, and drawings.
- Must have basic communication skills in writing and speaking the English language.
- Must have excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
- Must have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to work in environmental conditions such as cold, wet, wind, and heat, inside or outside Company facilities.
- Must have the ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Must have the ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
- Must have excellent follow through, be meticulous, and flexible.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Must be mechanically inclined.
- Boiler operator’s license within one year of service required.
- Fork Lift operator’s license a plus.
- Able to work well with others, self-starter, and a quick learner.
- Proven experience or education in chemical handling and safety.
- Previous operating experience in a chemical plant or lab is preferred.
