TEACHER/FAMILY ADVOCATE
We have two types of Teacher/Family Advocate Positions Available:
  • a cyclical, 10-month position scheduled from mid-August through mid-June each year
  • a non-permanent (temporary) position not expected to exceed six months

Edmonds College Head Start, Early Head Start, and ECEAP is looking for early childhood education professionals with a passion for teaching children to apply for the position of Teacher/Family Advocate.  This position functions as a lead preschool teacher who also forms partnerships with parents and supports them toward achieving their individual goals.  Successful candidates will have a strong understanding of child development, effective time management skills, flexibility, and an ability to work autonomously and as part of a strong team in a high quality preschool environment.  We are looking for candidates who are willing to work with a rich and diverse population and who have strong communication and listening skills.  Candidates must also be familiar with technology and comfortable working with databases.

Classroom Teaching and Planning

  • Effectively plan, implement and evaluate classroom systems and plans, team communication and problem-solving with site staff and classroom co-teacher team
  • Plan developmentally appropriate curriculum that addresses the needs & interests of dual language learners and children with disabilities
  • Obtain and maintain Inter Rater Reliability using Teaching Strategies Gold within 60 days of employment
  • Complete to fidelity required observations and checkpoints quarterly utilizing the Teaching Strategies Gold documentation tool
  • Maintain scores of Adequate, Strong, and Exemplary on yearly Strengthening Operations for Learning and Results (SOLAR) observation
  • Deliver educational programming and manage the classroom in a way that promotes safety for a class of 16-19 children
  • Promote school readiness goals by creating an emotionally supportive classroom environment that fosters self-help skills
  • Provide direction, leadership and maintain positive working team environment to the Assistant Teacher, Food Service Workers, Classroom Aide and Volunteers
  • Substitute in the classroom during desk time, when needed due to staffing shortages
  • Meet weekly with teaching team to discuss classroom needs and responsibilities
Family Services
  • Engage parents in their child's learning through participation in home visits and home learning activities
  • Collaborate with local school districts on coordinated services and referrals to children with disabilities
  • Recognize that parents are the first teacher and most knowledgeable of their child's needs
  • Maintain Head Start & ECEAP standards in completing home visit and parent conference requirements
  • Ensure that Family Needs Assessment is completed within 90 days of family enrollment
  • From Needs Assessment, follow-up with community referrals and resources
  • Ensure that parents are meeting Head Start & ECEAP standards in health requirements
  • Work collaboratively with program services of health, mental health, disabilities, family services to ensure children and families are meeting Head Start and ECEAP performance standards.
  • Ensure families are meeting attendance requirements
  • Schedule Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings when required to ensure family and child needs are met when issues arise
  • Complete family goals with each family in caseload
 Compliance Monitoring
  • Maintain compliance with Head Start & ECEAP program standards and procedures
  • Perform daily data entry into our curriculum/assessment and child file databases
  • Conduct and evaluate development and behavioral screenings, referring children as needed

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • An associate, baccalaureate, or advanced degree in child development or early childhood education, OR equivalent coursework
  • Two years of experience working in a preschool classroom
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience as a Lead Teacher in a preschool classroom
  • Experience in a Head Start/ECEAP program, working with children and parents
  • Additional professional work experience
    • doing home visits
    • working with low-income children and families
    • working with a classroom of mostly non-English speaking students
  • Work experience that required establishing/maintaining complex paper and electronic records, comprehensive documentation and establishing/updating client database
  • Experience with Creative Curriculum
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification
  • Dual/Multi Language Fluency

Additional Information

PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Ability to report to work at scheduled times; position may require some evening scheduling. Work is performed in an office setting and also in a preschool classroom. The ability to sit at a desk/computer station and perform detailed tasks involving repetitive arm and hand movements, such as data entry, is essential. Operation of standard office equipment such as a PC/terminal and copy machine is required. The ability to move over uneven surfaces and exhibit sensitivity with enrolled families is essential. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are essential.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Verification of fully vaccinated for COVID19 by Sep 13, 2021 
  • Other required vaccines:  TDap, MMR
  • Must show a negative TB Test and obtain a health provider statement showing free of communicable diseases
  • Cleared Portable Background Check through DCYF

  • CPR/1st Certification
  • Must be able to transport self to home visits and off-site trainings and meetings
WORK SCHEDULE:
40 hours per week, Monday – Friday with occasional evenings.

COMPENSATION:
Salary range: Beginning salary is $3294 per month for 40 hours per week, with incremental increases to $4286 per month plus a full state benefits package, which includes tuition waivers for college classes, medical, dental, retirement options and more. Vacation and leave package includes 10 sick days per year, 9 scheduled holidays, 1 personal holiday, 2 personal leave days, and 11 vacation days per year (incremental increases to 20 vacation days per year).
