Teacher Aide

We have two types of Teacher Aide positions available:
  • Regular 18 hrs/week
  • On-Call

The Teacher Aide works with children in the classroom, assisting full time classroom staff with meal transitions, one on one or small group activities, and maintaining the classroom environment through light cleaning and restocking supplies.  We have two types of Teacher Aides:  regularly scheduled Teacher Aides assigned to one classroom, and On-Call Teacher Aides who substitute for education staff who are absent, work a variable schedule, and may be assigned to different classrooms on different days.  




Assisting in a Preschool Classroom

  • Work with children in a classroom setting
  • Assist with classroom snack and meal service
  • Assist with setting up a preschool classroom (including moving of child's size furniture, tables, chairs, shelves, and regular sized shelving units)
  • Perform regular sanitation and cleaning of the classroom 
  • Maintain the health and safety of all children and their environment 
  • Ensure that no child is ever left alone or unsupervised
  • Use an online scheduling system to schedule self for work (On-Call Teacher Aides only)
  • Other duties as assigned

KEY COMPETENCIES (specific knowledge, skills or skill sets, and/or abilities necessary to perform work activities):

  1. Be able to perform all the essential functions of the position
  2. Ability to work independently, but also be a team player
  3. Ability to problem-solve and handle sensitive information and difficult situations tactfully and confidentially
  4. Must be knowledgeable of and work in accordance with Head Start/ECEAP Performance Standards, Federal, State, and College policies and regulations, and negotiated agreements
  5. Must be able to communicate via email and phone 
  6. Must be able to exhibit cultural humility when working with staff and families from diverse racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds
  7. Must be flexible and able to negotiate priorities according to program needs while considering rules and process requirements
  8. Reliability:
    • Regularly scheduled Teacher Aides must consistently adhere to an established work schedule and maintain a 95% attendance rating
    • On-Call Teacher Aides must work a minimum of 8 hours each month (October - May).  They must also work at least one evening event each school year
  9. Current Food Worker Card and Pediatric CPR/1st Aid
JOB READINESS FACTORS(working conditions such as environmental factors, mental and physical demands, willingness issues of the position):
  1. Must be able to work under stressful situations and manage stress appropriately
  2. Must be able to accomplish repetitive tasks while maintaining a high level of accuracy
  3. Must be able to walk or run quickly, kneel or sit on the floor, lift approximately 50 pounds, sit in a child's size chair, and move quickly from multiple positions and levels
  4. Ability to perform regular sanitation/cleaning of the classroom that may require the use of a broom, carpet sweeper, mop, vacuum, and the use of cleaning products
  5. Must be able to transport self to off-site trainings and meetings
  6. Required vaccines:  TDap, MMR, Hep B series
  7. Must show a negative TB Test and obtain a health provider statement showing free of communicable diseases
  8. Cleared Portable Background Check through DCYF





  1. Must be age 18 or older
  2. Must possess a current Snohomish County Food Worker Card


Additional Information


Ability to report to work at scheduled times; position may require some evening scheduling. Work is performed in a classroom setting. The ability to move over uneven surfaces and squat, kneel, bend, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds is essential.  Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are essential. 

Regular Teacher Aide:  18 hours per week.  Summers off.
On-Call Teacher Aide:  variable and flexible work schedule.  Must work at least 8 hours per month.  Summers off.
