Food Service Worker (part-time, hourly)

Our kitchen provides meals and snacks to over 500 preschool children at nine centers throughout Snohomish County.  The Food Service Worker delivers meals to their assigned center and returns dirty dishes back to our kitchen.  The Food Service Worker is also responsible for helping with food prep, dishwashing, cleaning, and sanitizing. This is a non-permanent, hourly position and reports to the Food Service Manager.

  4. Must be knowledgeable of and work in accordance with Head Start/ECEAP Performance Standards, Federal, State, and College policies and regulations, and negotiated agreements
  5. Must be able to communicate via email and phone

  • If assigned a driving position, must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License and personal automobile insurance
  • Must be flexible and able to negotiate priorities according to program needs while considering rules and process requirements

  • Must be able to accomplish repetitive tasks while maintaining a high level of accuracy
  • Must be able to exhibit cultural humility when working with staff and families from diverse racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Must consistently adhere to an established work schedule and maintain a 95% attendance rate
  • Ability to perform regular sanitation/cleaning of the classroom or kitchen that may require the use of a broom, carpet sweeper, mop, vacuum, and the use of cleaning products
  • Must be able to transport self to off-site trainings and meetings


25%:  Driving (does not apply to all Food Service Worker positions)

  • Drive a program vehicle to transport food, supplies, and equipment to and from kitchen and assigned preschool center
25%:  Kitchen Help
  • Load and unload cambros into program vehicles
  • Other duties as assigned
50%: Food Prep and Serving
  • Set up food for family-style meal service in the classroom, prep food for breakfast and snacks
  • Maintain the health and safety of all children and their environment
  • Ensure that no child is ever left alone or unsupervised




  1. Must possess a current Snohomish Health District Food Worker Card
  2. Valid Washington State driver's license (applies to driving positions only)
  3. Driving record free of significant or multiple violations within the last 3 years (applies to driving positions only)
  1. Work experience with:
    1. heavy cleaning in either a commercial food service setting or hospital
    2. food preparation, portion control, and serving, preferably in a school or childcare setting
  2. Work experience with:
    1. quantity/institutional food service cleaning and sanitizing
    2. quantity/institutional food preparation
  3. Work experience in transporting meals
  4. Work experience handling a stockroom and its inventory


Additional Information


Ability to report to work at scheduled times; position may require some evening scheduling. Work is performed in an institutional kitchen environment and also in preschool classrooms. The ability to move over uneven surfaces and exhibit sensitivity while with enrolled students and families.  Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are essential. 

  • Verification of fully vaccinated for COVID19 by Sep 13, 2021 
  • Other required vaccines:  TDap, MMR
  • Must show a negative TB Test and obtain a health provider statement showing free of communicable diseases
  • Cleared Portable Background Check through DCYF
  • Current Snohomish Health District Food Worker Card
  • Valid WA State Driver's license; clean driving record
up to 17 hours per week, Tuesday – Friday, midday shifts.
