FINFISH TECHNICIAN II
SUPERVISOR: FINFISH BIOLOGIST
SALARY $31,000.00 + ANNUALLY DOQ (GRADE 7-9)
NATURE OF WORK: This position provides technical assistance to finfish program
biologists. During April through July, the individual will assist the Finfish Biologist with
a long-term steelhead supplementation project to be conducted within the Hood Canal.
The individual will also assist with projects being conducted by other Tribal biologists;
specifically, he or she will assist the Finfish Biologist with Coded Wire Tag (CWT)
sampling and salmon redd surveys during the months of August through November.
REPRESENTATIVE JOB DUTIES:
1. Salmon spawning ground Surveys via raft, foot and snorkel
2. Steelhead redd surveys and triangulations
3. Interagency and cooperative spawning ground surveys
4. Carcass sampling-otolith, DNA, Coded Wire Tag (CWT) and scale collection
5. Piloting drones and spawning ground surveys
6. Redd pumping (weekend work required)
7. Transportation of eggs to North Fork Skokomish Salmon Hatchery
8. Habitat and water temperature monitoring
9. Assist with CWT commercial sampling duties
10. Estuary Sampling
11. Parr and smolt collections
12. Gear acquisition, maintenance and repair
13. Operation of 4X4 vehicle and small watercraft
14. Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High School diploma/GED with two years of relevant work experience
2. Must be physically fit and able to carry out demanding work in rugged terrain, in
all weather conditions and on the water
3. Able to maintain accurate data and records.
4. Ability to identify fish species
5. Prior experience with small boat operations
6. Familiarity with Skokomish fishing areas and Treaty rights
7. Candidate must have a valid driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribe’s
automobile insurance.
8. Must be able to work in a team environment.
9. The selected candidate must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen
test, and a complete background investigation, including relevant criminal history,
prior to employment.
