Director of Nursing
POSITION SUMMARY: As a key member of the Northpoint team, the Director of Nursing is registered nurse who is responsible for ensuring that quality medical care is coordinated and delivered to patients through careful management of staff and other resources. This person will lead and supervise a multidisciplinary team in accordance with policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
- Manage the frontline nursing staff and ensure continual delivery of excellent patient care
- Work closely with the Medical Director to coordinate patient care, provider appointments and medication protocols; ensure medical care is in line with established policy and procedure
- Share facility administrative tasks with Administrator/Program Director
- Provide and/or coordinate on-call services for facility
- Maintain nursing operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures
- Familiarity with The Joint Commission accredidation requirements; take an active role in maintaining Joint Commission audits and continual readiness within the facility
- Participate in recruiting, selecting, orienting and training nurses
- Supervise, educate, coach, acknowledge and discipline nursing staff
- Manage and develop work based teams for assigned shifts, train new staff, and provide leadership to nursing staff
- Create and maintain a comprehensive schedule to meet all shift requirements
- Provide information to patients and staff by answering questions and requests
- Resolve a variety of patient needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies
- Maintain a cooperative relationship among the nursing team and other staff by communicating information, responding to requests, building rapport, and participating in team problem solving methods
- Manage Northpoint Washington’s Infection Control Program
- Manage Vivitrol education, ordering, insurance claim processing and administration for inpatient and outpatient facilities
- Manage FMLA and Short Term Disability paperwork for patients
- Perform Utilization and Peer-to-Peer reviews as requested by the Billing team
- Act as liason for facility-related matters with contracting vendors
- Complete medical pre-screen on all potential admissions to facility
- Respond to all incident reports
- Provide hands on care to patients; perform all duties of a Registered Nurse
- Audit charts for procedure compliance
- Document information regarding patient care and behavior as required in policies and procedures
- Utilize crisis prevention intervention when exposed to volatile patients to maintain personal safety as well as ensuring safety for the patient and other individuals in the unit
- Participate in patient treatment planning and implementation
- Particpate in the maintenance of a clean, orderly, and safe environment and report needs for repairs and maintenance to appropriate staff
- Participate in implementation of unit therapeutic programming
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with established policies and procedures and standards of care
- Perform other job related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS FOR POSITION:
- Bachelors Degree from an accredited program of professional nursing
- Must be a licensed RN by the Washington Board of Nursing
- A minimum of two years’ experience in the field of nursing in a substance use, alcoholism, and/or mental health discipline
- At least one of those years must be in an administrative capacity
- Proven clinical skills and a strong understanding of management and organizational processes in a healthcare setting
- Knowledge and skills in English usage, interpersonal relationships and excellent communication skills

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES/LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS:
- Must hold active RN State Board of Nursing licensure
- Must maintain current crisis prevention intervention and nationally accredited CPR/First Aid/AED certification
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Direct supervisor for Nursing staff
- Responsible for evaluating the performance of personnel in the Nursing Department

- Environment is a forty-four (44) bed residential treatment facility
- Exposure to disturbed and potentially aggressive patients is possible. Stress ranges from low to intense depending on the situation
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Completion of a tuberculin screening during first week of employment
- Completion of a pre-employment drug screening, post-accident and random for upon reasonable suspicion of use
- Completion of orientation and required paperwork prior to reporting to work
- Demonstrated computer literacy
- Completion of CPR/First Aid Training within first 90 days of employment
- Attendance at all mandatory staff development and training
- Completion of WATCH background check
