DESCRIPTION:
The City of Tukwila is a dynamic suburb of Seattle, Washington. A unique city, Tukwila is one of the most diverse communities in the country, with more than 80 languages spoken in its schools. Also located in Tukwila is the largest retail mall in the Pacific Northwest. While 20,000 people reside in Tukwila, more than 47,000 work in the City every day and more than 150,000 go in and out of the city on a daily basis. The Permit Coordinator is under the direction of the Community Development Director, the Permit Coordination Division is responsible for maintaining the permit system and receiving and issuing approximately 1,700 permits using Trakit software. The Permit Coordinator supervises permit staff and is responsible for the operation of a permit processing program to ensure that permit applications are processed quickly and correctly.
This position is represented by the Teamster's Local Union #763.

Hiring Salary Range: $6,450 - $7,112 per month, plus excellent benefits.
NOTE: Hiring above the salary mid-range requires Mayor's Office approval.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develops, coordinates and administers all aspects of the City-wide permitting system, to include determining proper review procedures; coordinating and monitoring review process; identifying permit problems and developing solutions; developing and implementing procedural changes and setting standards for work performance within the development review process.
Provides direction, counseling, performance evaluation, discipline, and training of assigned staff.
Acts as primary manager of the automated permit system for the City, to include maintaining and monitoring performance; checking accuracy of the system; researching and recommending upgrades; identifying and coordinating training needs; and verifying data entry.
Acts as a liaison for assigned area with other agencies, to include other departments, divisions, and the general public. Facilitates meetings, such as pre-application conferences, and provides staff support to various advisory boards and committees.
Researches, analyzes, and prepares a variety of complex documents, reports, statistical summaries, and other material requiring judgment as to content, accuracy, and completeness.
Provides general technical assistance, advice, and problem resolution to City Council, City departments, and other agencies.
Maintains reasonable, predictable, and regular attendance during the standard work week.
Maintains records and documentation, to include maintaining files for bonds and financial securities and determining the release or extension of related bonds.
Evaluates and develops goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and priorities for assigned area and implements changes as needed. Analyzes the effectiveness of operations to include evaluating work product, methods, and procedures to improve internal and external customer service.
Tracks legislation and develops policies and procedures in response to federal, state, local, and City laws, rules, regulations, and codes; and ensures compliance.
Resolves availability and quality of service problems and analyzes or assesses service needs.
Assists departments with programs and projects that may impact the permitting process to ensure coordination between the City-wide permitting program and department programs. Reviews and evaluates department policies and actions that may impact the City-wide permitting program.
Prepares and manages the permitting program budget utilizing internal controls to assure fiscal responsibility and financial accountability.
