Accounting Manager
The Center for Rural Affairs is hiring an Accounting Manager. The Accounting Manager will direct and oversee all Center functions related to the accounting functions. The person selected for this position will report to the Chief Financial Officer and oversee all individuals in the areas of accounting and finance.
The Center has an annual budget of $5 million, an endowment fund of $6 million, a microloan portfolio of $6 million, and manages $2 million annually for fiscally sponsored entities. The Center is experiencing a period of growth and increased financial complexity, prompting the addition of this new position.
Position Details
This is a full-time position located in Lyons, Nebraska. Compensation is commensurate with experience and a comprehensive benefits package will be provided.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Direct a team of accounting and finance staff; serve as team leader by selecting, onboarding, motivating, guiding, and developing team members.
- Provide direction, feedback, and recognition to team members through 1 on 1s, quarterly conversations, and reviews.
- Maintain positive relationships with current and potential clients, collaborators, and community members.
- Direct and manage all aspects of the finance and accounting functions of the organization ensuring all accounting records are accurate and complete (Payables, Receivables, Payroll, Loan Processing).
- Responsible for the annual budget in addition to compliance and tracking of individual grant files and funding reports.
- Prepare monthly financials for all Center entities including the fiscal sponsorships and subsidiaries.
- Implement corrective action plans to solve organizational or department problems.
- Assist the CFO with developing Center strategy and ensure strategy implementation in the development of the Center’s strategic plan and financial priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Accounting.
- Professional certifications a plus (i.e. CPA)
- Five years of experience in a progressively responsible financial leadership role.
- Five years of staff management experience with two to three years in a supervisory role.
- Extensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, budgeting, and grant administration.
- Strong leadership skills; several years of experience motivating and leading a team of people.
- High level of attention to detail and ability to problem solve strategically.
- Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Reliable and trustworthy; ability to demonstrate a high degree of discretion and maintain confidential information.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
