AWWDs service area is a rapidly developing and diverse community that covers multiple land use jurisdictions. The successful candidate will work with AWWD staff, the development community, and our partner agencies and municipalities to assure that system extensions are both cost effective and built to last.
The Development Engineering Manager performs engineering and technical functions in addition to managing the development review program and supervising the development workgroup. The workgroup currently consists of three Engineering Technicians and a Mapping & Modeling Analyst who are responsible for plan review, CAD, mapping, water/sewer modeling, and other related services. The ideal Development Engineering Manager candidate will be an effective supervisor and team builder, and foster good relationships with assigned staff, co-workers, developers, and the community at large. This role will best be served by a knowledgeable professional who not only masters the engineering and construction elements of development, but also practices effective leadership and mentorship.
Successful candidates will have excellent communication skills, and will regularly interact with a wide variety of our customers and partners, including city and county officials, neighboring city and district staff and managers, as well as Alderwood’s own staff, management, and Board. This individual will need to be able to enforce standards while simultaneously building cooperative relationships with other agencies, developers, and the public. The Development Engineering Manager should be someone that will approach their work with integrity and treat others fairly and consistently.

Spanning over 45-square miles in southwest Snohomish County, AWWD is the largest special purpose water/wastewater District in the State of Washington.
The District’s strategic plan includes the following strategies: ‘serve you today’, ‘plan for tomorrow’, ‘protect our water supply’, ‘manage our information and our physical assets’, and ‘build a learning organization’. The Engineering & Development Department will continue to develop and refine strategies to coordinate and collaborate with Snohomish county and neighboring cities and districts to meeting the needs of anticipated growth. The Development Engineering Manager will continue to play a vital role in helping to implement all of these strategies, especially as the District continues to evolve into a proactive, prepared and forward-thinking organization.
